Pastelada Party!

  • CROMA Public Alley 438 Boston, MA, 02116 United States (map)

In Puerto Rico, the holiday season begins early with joyous celebrations filled with food and music. At the heart of these festivities is pasteles, a traditional dish of Puerto Rican cuisine that not only embodies the spirit of Christmas but also carries a rich cultural significance.

Made from a delicate blend of plantains, green bananas, and local tubers such as yautía and yucca, pasteles are wrapped in banana leaves, filled with spiced meat, and dyed golden brown with achiote oil before being boiled to perfection.

Preparing pasteles is a labor of love. That’s why families and friends often get together during the holidays to form a production chain in which each person participates in making these little bundles of joy. Beyond the island, Puerto Ricans celebrate “pasteladas” worldwide by coming together to enjoy this ancestral dish and reconnect with their cultural roots.

This holiday season, in partnership with Discover Puerto Rico and El Pretexto Culinary Farm Lodge, we invite you to experience the magic of “pasteladas”.
