Zahili Zamora's Jazz Ensemble

  • Boston Common 120 Boylston Street Boston, MA, 02116 United States (map)

Born in Manzanillo, Cuba, pianist Zahili Zamora started playing piano at the age of six, and graduated from the National School of Music with a performance degree. Her passion for music has taken her to Canada, to Southeast Asia, and the United States. Her rich musical background, career experience, and extraordinary improvisation skills make her a modern Latin jazz leader and an influential musician. In 2018, with funding from the Boston Foundation, her Afro-Cuban jazz trio, MIXCLA, released its self-titled album featuring her original tunes; the album received two nominations from the Boston Music Awards (2018 & 2019).

Zahili has appeared on four Neighborhood Arts concerts with 3Nity and Claudio Ragazzi (2022) and ensembles with Sheila del Bosque and Patricia Zárate Pérez (2023). She was also a guest co-curator with Ken Field for the 2023 Jazz Along The Charles public performance project presented by Celebrity Series, with 25 jazz ensembles; she was also featured in a Solo(s) Together video preview for Daniel Bernard Roumain’s Music for Black People No. 1, Relentless filmed at Roslindale's Futura Studios (2022).

In addition to music by the performer, this program features the music of Tania Maria, Mario Bauza, Gerardo Alfonso, and Eliseo Grenet.
